Grade 12 Post Secondary Tours

Tec Voc counsellors have arranged tours at three post secondary institutions:

• Red River College - Tuesday February 21
• University of Winnipeg - Wednesday February 22
• University of Manitoba - Thursday February 23

Please pick up a permission slip, in the guidance office, if you would like to attend any of these tours.

The deadline for permissions slips is Thursday, February 16th.

January 2012 Exam Schedule

Students who have conflicts must see both teachers prior to exams.

Student Exam Regulations

1. The Tec Voc exams will be written in the Lower Gym, except grade 9’s.
2. Make sure that you know the date, time and location of the exams you will be writing.
3. It is the student’s responsibility to arrive at the examination room on time.  Exams begin at 9:00 a.m. & 1:00 p.m.  Students should arrive 10 minutes prior.
4. Bring with you only the equipment requested by your teachers – pens, pencils, eraser, ruler, geometry sets, calculators (cell phone calculators cannot be used), extra pens, etc.
5. Do not bring music or gaming devices to the exam.
6. Turn off cell phones prior to entering the exam room.
7. Once you enter the exam room:
   •    Put all bags and jackets at the front of the examination room.
   •    Find your seat quickly, remain silent and wait for instructions.
8. You must remain in the exam room at least 1hour for all grades.
9. If you have an exam conflict, please see your subject teachers immediately.
10. When you are not scheduled to write an exam, you may choose one of the following options:
    •    study in the Library
    •    study in the Cafeteria
    •    study at home.

Note:  If you are not studying in one of the designated areas you must leave the building

*TLC will be open 1:30-5:30 Monday – Wednesday*

PLEASE DO NOT LOITER IN THE HALLWAYS DURING EXAMS.

Tec-Voc Advertising Art Students Win Safe Schools Grant

As part of the province’s action plan to keep young workers safe, students were asked to create projects to encourage and educate students and youth on safety and health.  Four Tec-Voc students developed a board game, The Safety Game, and were chosen to receive a $2,000 grant under the SAFE Schools Grant contest.  Labour and Immigration Minister Jennifer Howard was at Tec-Voc on December 20 to make an announcement concerning the contest and present the students with their award.  Completed projects will be shared with other schools to increase awareness of safety and health among Manitoba’s youth and showcased during the 2012 Day of Mourning activities.  The Minister and trustee Anthony Ramos enjoyed playing the game with students after the announcement.

Tec Guitarists perform with Manitoba Chamber Orchestra

On Tuesday, January 10 six Tec-Voc music students performed in pre-concert prior to the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra program at Westminster United Church. The Tec-Voc Guitar Ensemble performed four selections from their repertoire, Greensleeves, Classical Gas, The Entertainer and Goodbye Blue Sky. The audience was very appreciative of the performance which marked the third recent opportunity for Tec guitarists to perform with the Chamber Orchestra.

George de Jonge Baking Scholarship Fundraiser

Original intaglio prints (etchings) portraying the Technical Vocational High School building are still available for a purchase price of $50 each. All funds raised by the sale of these prints will go directly to supporting the George de Jonge Baking Scholarship.

The George de Jonge Baking Scholarship will be presented to a deserving student who is interested in pursuing a baking career but may not have the financial means to do so. The chosen student may not necessarily have the highest academic marks but will show great interest in a baking career.
